“Foolish Wisdom”
{1Cor 1.18-31}

In our passage we saw how God redefines and how God reminds us of our salvation. When we forget that God is our strength and our wisdom, then we begin to spend more time reflecting on our differences. Our call as a church is to work really hard to tell the story of Christ’s mysterious and overwhelming work of redemption through loving sacrifice.

Something Matt didn’t have time to go into was the biblical understanding of wisdom. True wisdom is an action based upon knowledge. Throughout the book of Proverbs we read that the truly wise person knows God, fears God, and follows God. Although some might argue that faith is blind or foolish, biblical faith is informed and shaped to live differently. To walk a narrow path. To rehearse the fact that we are sons and daughters of the King.

  1. How would you explain the primary difference between the wisdom and strength of the world and the wisdom and strength of God?

  2. What kind of effect does knowing that no matter how hard we try, in the scales of the world’s judgment, we will always be considered weak and foolish?

  3. Spend a couple minutes sharing how you came to know Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
