“Broken, Contrite, and Cleansed Hearts”
{Psalm 51}
This morning we considered what true repentance looked like. We saw from Psalm 51 that there needs to be (1) Intimate Confession; (2) Intimate Conversation; and (3) Intimate Hope. Without any of these three, our repentance becomes rote and can become a mere following rules.
As you consider your own sin, let the following questions guide your discussion:
Of the seven things modeled in David’s confession (from point 1), what do you find the hardest? Why?
What do you think it is in people that we want to fix ourselves? Why do you think it is hard for us to ask God to create clean hearts in us?
When you have been made aware of sin in your life, what has been your tendency? Why?
[Exercise:] Spend some time in silent confession. What have you done in the past, in the dark, that you need to confess. Take a piece of paper and write it out as a prayer to God: “God, I am sorry for…” Leader: After a time of silent confession, read the following passage: 1John 1.5-10
