1. One of the things Israel trusted in was the Temple and their religious expressions. What are one or two things you find yourself depending on for security and meaning in life?

2. The first point of Luther’s 95 Theses was that the whole of the Christian life is one of repentance. In other words, repentance is something that we should never move beyond, but continue to return to daily. Do you find it hard to repent? Why? What could you repent of now that God is convicting you of?

3. As you think of God’s character to make good on all his promises—the blessings and the curses, are you currently discouraged or encouraged to repent? In other words, we can get discouraged that we can seem to confess the same sins over and over and over and over and over again. Or we can be encouraged that he is faithful and just to forgive us over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. Where are you between encouragement and discouragement? Why?
